OmniPass is a program that provides password management capabilities. After installing the application, you are able to set up OmniPass in order to restrict access to specific programs, websites or files stored on your computer. To do so, you have to choose the items you want to protect and provide a “master password”. You will be prompted for this password every time you want to access them.
OmniPass provides an extension of the Windows logon model by prompting users for a password before granting access to the Windows desktop. The OmniPass application also offers support to hardware security devices such as the fingerprint recognition or SmartCard devices. Integrating these devices with OmniPass you are able to get a strong authentication system which restricts access to your desktop, websites or applications. You are always able to use new authentication methods if you upgrade OmniPass with plug-in components.
Another great feature of the OmniPass application is that it supports file encryption on Windows-based systems and you have the possibility to share the encrypted files with other OmniPass users.
The OmniPass program comes with an intuitive graphical interface allowing you to securely manage passwords, user settings and identities. OmniPass is able to store unlimited passwords and you can easily export or import the existing passwords. The application is compatible with Microsoft Passport for Internet Explorer and Windows XP Credential Manager. It also supports Mozilla Firefox 3.
Install the OmniPass utility on your computer and you won’t have to worry about your system security ever again.

You need the full version to restore (.opef files) from the backed up credentials (fingerbackup.opi). Which is a problem because you very likely lost access to the full version and its keys when the laptop it was bundled with died.
Basically one step short of ransomware.
